If there is one thing I love, it is discovering snacks that introduce me to flavors I have not experienced before. So, when NouBon contacted me and proposed to send me a selection of their products, I was excited. NouBon, is a women-owned, family-operated brand, created by two sisters, Pierrelande and Marie, that is inspired by the flavors and traditions of Haiti and the Caribbean. Their lineup includes small-batch snacks, all gluten free, such as Coconut Bites, Coconut Clusters, Peanut Crunch, and Vanilla Fudge, all rooted in classic Caribbean treats and recipes:
For coconut lovers, the Coconut Bites and Coconut Clusters are packed with real coconut. The Coconut Bites combine coconut with ginger, cinnamon, and a hint of almond extract, while the Coconut Clusters draw inspiration from Jamaican coconut drops, blending coconut with cane sugar and warming spices. I am not as big of a fan of coconut as Jodi, but I admit that I really liked the Coconut Clusters.
The Vanilla Fudge showcases another side of Caribbean traditions: it is inspired by Haitian Dous Makos, combining condensed milk, butter, vanilla, and warm spices. This is my favorite: you can never go wrong with condensed milk and butter!
The Peanut Crunch combines roasted peanuts, cane sugar, ginger, and warm spices. Unlike many peanut brittles that focus on sweetness, this one lets the peanuts take center stage, creating a crunchy snack with plenty of nutty flavor.
But, what also caught my attention was their Spicy Peanut Butter. Inspired by Haitian manba, this savory peanut butter is made with peanuts, salt, and Scotch bonnet pepper, creating a spread that is creamy, nutty, but definitely spicy, the spiciness hitting you after few seconds. Definitely not something I would eat with a piece of bread, but great with chicken (what about satay?) or noodles. They also have a ghost pepper peanut butter and I cannot imagine how spicy it is!
