Looking for a place to have lunch on a Saturday with my mother in law, we ended up at The Cabin Restaurant in Freehold, NJ, a roadside restaurant that hosts various car shows on its large parking lot. Operating since 1982, but under different management, this log cabin has a rustic fishing and hunting feel with its mounted deer and moose heads, or fish hanging on the walls.

Known for its pizza, BBQ and wings, I had to try each of them, with one of my favorite sodas: a root beer ($3). We started off with the fried pickle chips ($11.99), that were delightfully crunchy, accompanied by a horseradish dipping sauce that was unfortunately too salty. Still, this was pretty good. But not as good as the BBQ burnt ends ($14.99), that were phenomenal:the brisket was soft, nicely charred, fatty, with a sticky and sweet BBQ sauce, and came in an elegant presentation that was unexpected. The Cabin wings ($13.99) were pretty good. I chose the traditional rather than boneless, and picked the buffalo sauce over hot sauce, barbecue or Thai chili. The plain pizza ($15.99) was a bit disappointing, not because of the thin crust that was good and slightly crispy, or the cheese that was in good amount, but because of the sauce that seem to be straight from a can. Dessert though was delicious. We settled for the molten cookie cake ($9.99), that was served with vanilla ice cream (a la mode) and whipped cream. Soft, with a nice amount of chocolate chips inside, not too sweet, it was a good way to end the meal.

Overall, the food was fine, and even if not everything was great, I still want to go back to try their barbecue, as, if the other items they're make are like these burnt ends, they must be fantastic !

Enjoy (I did)!
